Pascal Hall today

Pascal Hall Mural • Rockport, Maine

Originally built in the 1850s as a Baptist Church this beautiful building has been restored many times since but now is home to author readings, musical events, and Art exhibitions.

This mural was commissioned for Pascal Hall in Rockport, Maine by The Lesher Family Foundation and involves a 16’ x 31’ mural including trompe l'oeil wainscot and frame to complete the illusion of a large history painting like one you may experience in the National Gallery in Washington, DC. The imagery involves a number of historic passages from Rockport Harbor’s past and I was inspired by Art at The Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine, particularly NC Wyeth in creating my final composition.

Pascal Hall today

Sitting on the banks of historic Rockport Harbor this 1850’s Baptist Church continues to be a vital part of the Rockport community.

Pascal Hall - Planning out the mural

Pascal Hall - Planning out the mural

Planning the 16’ x 32’ mural took over four months to research, plan, and begin.

The mural took about 7 months to paint.

Complete!

Complete!

I was thrilled to have my mother and father n’law come visit. Particularly enjoyed this image of them in front of the mural for scale!

The tromp l oil frame and paneling below lent a great sense of the illusion that this is a large painting hanging on the wall. I was thrilled to put my decorative arts skills into work to make this mural something special.

The Wyeth influence

The Wyeth influence

NC Wyeth has always been a huge influence in my work and with the Farnsworth Museum only miles down route 1 in Rockland, Maine I thought using many of his mural and painting images as references for my composition.
