2020 Covid projects - #3

February 5, 2022 peter walls

By April of 2020 things picked back up in the building trades and homeowners began to continue and “restart” some projects from the previous year. Pandemic project #3was something different, a redo of an incredible project done by British design firm Colefax + Fowler back in the 1980’s when the client had previously updated this island home. The decades of closing the house up and reopening every summer took its toll on the paint, plaster, and Decorative Artwork. I love recreating, or attempting to, great works as it pushes my to rethink how I do what I do. Often I learn new techniques and methods that keep me on point when looking at contemporary projects. This one definitely pushed me as I decided to apply a synthetic canvas to the walls to stop further moisture issues and then mapped the whole design out in the studio and then had assistance from my youngest itinerant Artisan in transferring the design as part of his Covid home school Art project- And of course he loves taking the ferry out to the island 😀🛥 A month of practicing brushstrokes to mimic the hand of the previous Artists, there seemed to be more than one, and a whole bunch of color matching later the room was brought back to life. #peterwallsart#maineartist #maineart#mainedecorativeart#maineinteriordesign
